Biography

History:

Laurie’s introduction to music was through her parents who come from a long line of gifted American musical homesteaders. Raised in the Sonoran Desert by a very talented hobbyist soprano, Laurie’s earliest memory of music was sleeping under the grand piano while her mother played. That quickly devolved at the young age of five, to stealing away with her father’s eclectic vinyl collection as soon as he stepped out to work--getting lost in the lyrical, powerful and sincere musical worlds of Bill Evans, Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stevie Wonder, Stan Getz, which still influence her to this day.

Accepted during her university studies as a student of American neo-classical composer Robert Muczsinsky, as well as renowned Liszt scholar and pedagogue, Pianist Ozan Marsh, influenced her composition style towards American neo-classism with an ear for perfect execution. Of which she is deeply appreciative. Graduating Cum Laude from the University of Arizona, she moved west to Los Angeles where she was mentored by icons in entertainment industry composers Alf Clausen (the Simpsons) Jay Chattaway (Star Trek franchise) and began to branch out on her own, composing music for commercials, television, independent film and video games. When not chasing her toddler son, Laurie makes her home composing or conducting on Los Angeles’ major scoring stage with the Hollywood Scoring Orchestra.

An educator and clinician, Laurie is co-founder of the Southern California Piano Academy, a learning center for the study of piano and is currently in the process of publishing her curriculum for the study of modern piano pedagogy.  Her educational scores for children and young ensembles (video game music for symphony, choir, wind ensemble) are published by Alfred Music Publishing, North America.
